The NAACP is planning to protest President Trump's visit to Atlanta Monday evening, The Associated Press reported.
The NAACP is encouraging people to protest the president's visit to attend the college football national championship game by carrying anti-Trump signs and wearing white — an effort to mock the "snowflake" term used by some Trump supporters, according to the news service.
Refuse Fascism ATL, another group, is also reportedly planning to protest the president's visit by taking "a knee against Trump" outside of CNN's world headquarters ahead of the kickoff.
The group is looking to show their solidarity with the NFL players who have knelt during the national anthem throughout the season to protest social justice issues, such as police brutality.
Trump is expected to attend the game Monday night between the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama.
Trump has frequently attacked NFL players who kneel during the national anthem and has called for the NFL to implement a rule requiring players to stand during the anthem.
In response to the president's attacks last year, multiple coaches and players spoke out and players on several teams continued to kneel during the national anthem throughout their season.
Vice President Pence also made headlines last year for leaving an NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers after several 49ers players kneeled during the national anthem.
Last year, Trump took to Twitter to rip Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and said his district, which includes most of Atlanta, was "falling apart."
“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk — no action or results. Sad!” Trump wrote in a series of tweets.

  1. I believe the players have every right to kneel during the national anthem because they are protesting for things they believe in and this is free speech. The NFL shouldn't make a rule that doesn't allow kneeling because that is against the players rights. Trump has also unfairly bashed the players for kneeling and I don't think this is fair. - Logan

  2. I think every NFL player has a right to kneel or stand during the national anthem. This is a sign of protest from the players, something that most Americans can stand by. I think its wrong for anybody to discourage and attack these players for very simple beliefs.

  4. In my opinion the players have the right to kneel during the national anthem but the reason they are kneeling is because they don´t agree with PRESIDENT Trumps actions. But kneeling during the national anthem is a sign of disrespect to the United States Of America, you are disrespecting the people who died to fight for the freedom for you to be able to show your opinion.

  5. I can understand the need for protest in a democratic society as it is every Americans right to do so, but by not standing for the flag and the national anthem, you are disrespecting the people that protect your rights that you have as an American citizen. The flag is a symbol for many service men and women throughout this nations history. The flag is what they fight under, live under, and die under. When soldiers come home in a casket, it is draped with an american flag. This shows why kneeling for the national anthem and the flag is not a respectful way to protest. -Nick

    1. I understand why people would be upset about NFL players kneeling during the national anthem if they think that the NFL players are disrespecting the military, but the protests are not about the military. The soldiers that fight and die for our country are doing so to protect our rights, the right to free speech, freedom of religion, and the right to assemble AKA protest. The NFL players are not burning the flag in the streets or stomping on it, they are just taking a knee during the anthem.
Taking a knee is a way of protesting that doesn't hurt anyone or destroy any property. The American flag and the National Anthem are a flag and an anthem, not the literal soldiers who died. Every country has a flag and some type of national anthem, the American ones are not imbued with some special power, they are just symbols of the nation. You can still support America and its Armed Forces without supporting every police, action or event that the country has.
The right to protest is part of the foundation of American identity, and we should not hate people for exercising a right that is guaranteed to them based on an attachment to a symbol. As Americans, we should care more about the actual rights and beliefs of the nation rather than a symbol of those rights. American men and women did not die for a pretty flag, they died so that the American people had the freedom to protest, speak their mind and even debate about issues that we disagree on.
Having an attachment to a symbol more so than the beliefs it represents is dangerous, if America had the same flag but discarded peoples rights, would it still be America? We can’t punish people for using their rights just because we disagree with them, it's hypocritical to tell people they can protest, but only in a way that is approved. Peacefully protesting should not be viewed as unpatriotic when in fact it is patriotic, at least the NFL players care about how the country is run and the laws that the country makes. How is America any better than countries that ban protests if our society punishes those who use their rights?

  6. I think that the argumement could go either way. The NFL players are protesting police brutality. Though it is disrespectful, Trump has done very little to help. There is no right answer, its just whatever you believe. Those who are offended by the kneeling arent looking at the other side. Those who are keeling are not standing for what they believe.

  7. Both sides of these arguments are understandable and relatable. However both of them are expressed in varying levels of disrespect. Under our constitution, freedom of speech and freedom to congregate are both granted to all citizens, so the actions made made by these NFL players, are protected under the constitution. Granted the methods of their protesting could be interpreted as disrespectful to the men and women dying for our country, it is effectively drawing attention to the issues. Despite acknowledging the faults in their form of protest, the reponses to NFL players kneeling can also be perceived as improper and disrespectful. The NFL players have the right to protest in a non-violent manners, therefore both sides of the argument are viable. The main focus of this whole situation should be not how the protesting is occurring, but rather why and how to fix the problems being protested.

  8. I believe that NFL players and anyone who would like, should have the opportunity to kneel if they desire to. Everyone has the right and the freedom to speak-or in this case kneel- to show what they believe in. Freedom is what this country is supposed to be based on. With President Trump attacking people about what they do, or don't do goes against everything this country is supposed to be built on. Attacking people online about their beliefes is the opposite of allowing freedom, its demeaning, rude, and confining people to only believing the same things as he does. We're all allowed to have our own beliefs. We shouldn't be coercing people into believeing certain things.

  9. Both sides of the argument are understandable but I believe that NFL players have the right to kneel to show what they believe in, especially in a country that strives on freedom.

  10. In the article you said that Trump has been attacking NFL players with insults and now people are trying to bar him from going into the games himself. I agree that anyone like Trump who has showed up to a game just to ridicule the players should be barred.

  11. After reading this it helped me realize what going on in the world today which isn't talked about often at school. Before reading this i personally didn't know this was going on. I knew that some schools around here were kneeling during the national anthem but it is news to me that other professional sports are doing this too. I believe that every person has their own rights, opinion, and freedom. I also believe that people should do something about their right and stand up for what they believe in. Taking a part in your future is a big thing and i think that people who are doing this are doing the right thing and i support their decision. I also do understand both side of the story and believe that this should be fixed. I do not support what Trump wants to do and i believe he has many better ways to fix this problem instead of barring them.

  12. The article states that Trump has been attacking NFL players who kneel during the national anthem to protest social justice issues. Both sides of the argument can be fought but Trump hasn't acknowledged why they are kneeling and hasn't done anything to help. Attacking them only makes things worse and doesn't solve anything.

  13. I think that kneeling during games shouldn't be a big issue at all. Why does it matter what someone does during the national anthem. Would you get angry at a paraplegic for not standing during the national anthem? No? Then why would you get angry at someone standing up (or rather kneeling) for what they believe in. Not everyone who attends those games is American and stands for the national anthem. I believe we should all have the respectful right to chose how we react to the national anthem. The position of someone's body shouldn't be the most important thing to Trump right now. Why doesn't he focus on other things, like the homeless situation, or the slave trade going on in Libya. There are clearly much more important issues to focus on and I just don't understand why that's "our president's" most important issue.

  14. I think this issue has been blown out of proportion by Trump, and that he should obviously be focusing on the more important issues that we have as a country. I also stand with the players that have knelt in order to stand up and fight racism and the many other problems that they and others may be facing. In the arguments that Trump has made he is barely acknowledging the other side of the story and saying that the players are being disrespectful, which was not their intention at all.

  15. As the article says that the people who are kneeling during the national anthem are protesting social justice issues, I agree that they have the right to do so. While many people would disagree saying that if you kneel you're, "dishonoring the people who fought for our country", the people who fought for our country fought for freedom, and protesting is someones freedom. In the pledge of allegiance that we hear everyday, it states the United States provides "liberty and justice for all". This promise is not being lived up to in the current state of our country, and the people who are kneeling during the anthem are drawing attention to the fact that we currently don't have what our country is supposedly supposed to be built upon, freedom and equality. Also, in the US flag code of conduct, one rule it states is that the flag should never be carried flat, which is what happens at many of the same sports events President Trump is attending, where he "attacks" people for kneeling. It also states rules such as how the flag should never be used on any sort of clothing, how it should never be used for any advertising, and how it should never be part of any athletic uniform. Besides these rules in the US Code of conduct, none of them are drawn attention to because we have been doing these things for many years, while not standing during the anthem is still very controversial. If President Trump was honestly worried about the morals of our country and honoring it, he would be focused on providing the promised freedom and liberty to everyone, including immigrants, dreamers, and people of lower wealth and social status, instead of "attacking" people for protesting what isn't right in our country.
